‘Algorithmic Finance: Inquiring into the Reshaping of Financial Markets’ (AlgoFinance) is a four-year research project funded by the European Research Council.
The aim of this project is to better understand how and with what consequences the turn to algorithms is transforming financial markets. This entails a focus on algorithmic trading, including high-frequency trading and machine-learning-based trading algorithms.
The project is genuinely interdisciplinary, utilizing insights and tools from sociology, anthropology, computer science, and physics. Among other things, the AlgoFinance project combines qualitative sociological and anthropological work with numerical simulations in the form of agent-based modeling.
